We believe that building things right the first time keeps your home more energy efficient and comfortable. The process creates a home that performs. You don’t need to add solar energy, windmills or any expensive new gadgets. And, building to Energy Star standards often costs little or nothing in added cost. In all cases, building to Energy Star standards will save money in the long run of home ownership.

Energy Star homes look like any other home. There is no way to tell from the outside that your home meets Energy Star requirements but you will know it when you live in that home. And, if you want to, you can put a plaque on the outside that tells the neighborhood you are saving money.

Some of the things we emphasize:

We certify proper installation of insulation and proper levels of insulation. We also make sure that an air barrier is installed properly to keep out drafts.

We make sure that heating and cooling systems are “right-sized” so that they work efficiently and economically. This means your heating system works to maximum efficiency and your cooling system dehumidifies the air as well as being efficient in cooling it.

“Right-sizing” of heating and cooling systems often means smaller and therefore less expensive components.

Because we encourage tight homes with minimal air leakage, we often specify fresh air systems that keep a home filled with fresh outside air. It sounds wrong to let in fresh air but modern heat recovery systems can do it with minimal energy cost. This controls the air on your terms, not from undiscoverable leaks.
